Diagram (illustration, not to scale)

Objective

Measure how contraction, force and response time of SMA wire change with current, wire diameter and cooling.

What you will build

Nitinol wire actuators with a bias spring, a controlled current supply (MOSFET with Arduino), and a small gripper or flap mechanism with temperature or position sensing.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Smart materials, the shape memory effect, actuators and simple control.

Tools and notes

Arduino, MOSFET, thermocouple, Excel. The wire gets hot, so limit the current and time and insulate the mechanism.

Resume points from this project

Replace [x] with your own measured results. Write only what you really did.
