Friction Clutch Torque Capacity Test Rig

Objective
Measure the torque a friction clutch can transmit at different spring forces and with different friction linings, and compare it with theory.
What you will build
A single-plate clutch with adjustable spring load, a driving motor, a driven shaft with a brake or load, and a torque arm with a spring balance.
Results you can expect
- Torque capacity vs axial force for 2-3 friction linings
- Measured vs theoretical torque
- Slip speed and heating
What you will learn
Clutch design, friction and wear theory, and torque transmission.
Tools and notes
Tachometer, spring balance, Excel. Friction pads can be cut from brake lining sheet. Keep a guard on the shafts.
