Objective

Design a mains-isolated power supply and compare it with a commercial adapter on efficiency and noise.

What you will build

A flyback power supply with a transformer you design and wind, a PWM controller IC, an optocoupler feedback and basic EMI filtering.

What you will learn

Magnetics design, isolation, feedback loops and compliance basics.

Tools and notes

UC3842 or similar controller, ferrite core, MOSFET, optocoupler, scope, power meter. Mains-connected: use an isolation transformer, enclosure, fuse and supervision.
