Switched Reluctance Motor Drive with Rotor-Position Sensing

Electrical Machines / DrivesHard

Approx. component budget: Rs. 7,000 - 12,000

Objective

Run a magnet-free motor and study how the switching angles change torque, current and noise.

What you will build

A small 6/4 switched reluctance motor, an asymmetric half-bridge driver, a position sensor and a controller that fires phases at the right angle.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Reluctance torque, converter design for SRMs and why they are used in EV research.

Tools and notes

SRM or a rewound stator, MOSFET half-bridges, optical or Hall position sensor, STM32/Arduino, scope. Provide current limiting and a flyback path for safe testing.
