Objective

Design and test an LED driver and compare it with a ready-made driver for efficiency, power factor, flicker and temperature rise.

What you will build

A constant-current LED driver (buck or flyback type) for a 10-20 W LED module, with a rectifier, input filter, current sensing, and test points for measuring power factor, efficiency and flicker.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Switch-mode drivers, power factor, flicker and LED thermal behaviour, useful for lighting and consumer electronics roles.

Tools and notes

Oscilloscope, power meter, lux meter, Excel. Mains input is involved, so use an isolating transformer for testing, an enclosure and a fuse. Work only with supervision.
