Objective

Control the speed of an induction motor by varying frequency and voltage together, and measure speed, current and efficiency.

What you will build

An SPWM inverter stage with an IGBT or MOSFET bridge, a microcontroller generating variable-frequency PWM with proportional voltage, a rectifier and DC link, and a small capacitor-start or PSC fan motor.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Induction motor speed control, V/f method, inverter operation and how an industrial VFD works.

Tools and notes

Microcontroller, isolated gate drivers, oscilloscope, tachometer, Excel. Works with mains-level DC bus, so use full insulation, an isolating transformer and a fuse. Work only with proper supervision.
