Blockchain Certificate Verification on a Test Network

Objective

Prove a certificate is genuine and unchanged without storing personal data on the chain.

What you will build

A system where a college issues certificates by storing their hash on a test blockchain, and anyone can verify a PDF by uploading it.

• Verification of genuine and edited certificates (100 percent detection of changes)
• Gas cost per issue on a testnet
• Verification time
• And a comparison with a plain database approach

What you will learn

Hashing, smart contracts, on-chain vs off-chain data, and honest limits of blockchain.

Tools and notes

Solidity, Hardhat, Ethereum or Polygon testnet, Web3.js or ethers.js, React. Use test networks only and store hashes, never personal data.
