Containerised Microservices App with Load Testing

Objective

Compare a single-block app with a microservices version under load and see what really improves.

What you will build

A small online shop split into services (users, products, orders) running in Docker containers behind a gateway, with monitoring and automatic restarts.

Results you can expect

• Requests per second and 95th-percentile latency for both designs
• Behaviour when one service is stopped
• Scaling from 1 to 3 copies of a service
• And monitoring graphs

What you will learn

Service boundaries, APIs between services, containers, observability, and the cost of added complexity.

Tools and notes

Docker Compose, Node.js or Python (FastAPI), Nginx, Prometheus and Grafana, k6. Kubernetes (minikube) is an optional extension.
