Package Drop Tester with Shock Measurement

Objective

Drop packages from different heights and orientations and measure the shock the contents feel, comparing different cushioning materials.

What you will build

A free-fall drop frame with a lifting and quick-release mechanism, a flat impact surface, a height scale, and an accelerometer inside a test box.

• Damage ranking

What you will learn

Shock and package testing, transit packaging design and accelerometer data analysis.

Tools and notes

High-g accelerometer + data logger, camera, Excel. Use a safe release arrangement and keep feet clear. A simplified test, not a certified one.
