Diagram (illustration, not to scale)

Objective

Measure how the water lifted per minute changes with screw angle, speed and water level, and find the best operating point.

What you will build

A helical screw on a central shaft, set in a half-pipe trough at an adjustable angle, with a motor and speed control, a top tank and a bottom tank.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Screw conveyors, helical geometry, fluid lifting and simple machine design, used in irrigation and wastewater.

Tools and notes

Tachometer, energy meter, stopwatch, Excel. Needs a lathe or pipe fabrication. Keep hands away from the rotating screw.

Resume points from this project

Replace [x] with your own measured results. Write only what you really did.
