Objective

Find the thermal resistance of a heat pipe at different heat loads and tilt angles and compare it with a solid copper rod.

What you will build

Ready-made copper heat pipes clamped to a heater block with an aluminium fin stack and a small fan, thermocouples along the pipe, and a plain copper rod of the same size as the reference.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Two-phase heat transfer, thermal resistance, effect of orientation, and why heat pipes are used in laptops and LED lights.

Tools and notes

Arduino + thermocouples, heater with a dimmer or regulated supply, Excel. Insulate the heater block and use proper electrical protection.

Resume points from this project
