Dual-Axis Solar Tracker vs Fixed Panel

Renewable / MechatronicsMediumWorkshop: medium-high

Approx. component budget: Rs. 10,000 - 15,000

Diagram of Dual-Axis Solar Tracker vs Fixed Panel
Diagram (illustration, not to scale)

Objective

Measure the extra energy gained by tracking the sun, after subtracting the energy the tracker itself uses.

What you will build

A frame that turns a small solar panel (20-50 W) on two axes using light sensors, a servo or actuator and a controller, next to a fixed reference panel.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Mechanism design, sensor-based control and solar energy measurement.

Tools and notes

Arduino, voltage/current logging, Excel. Test on several sunny days.

Resume points from this project
