Electric Motor Dynamometer for EV Motor Testing

Objective

Test a small EV motor and produce a performance map as in a testing laboratory.

What you will build

A test bench with a motor under test coupled to a load (a brake or generator) with torque and speed sensors, to plot the torque-speed and efficiency curves.

• Torque-speed curve
• Efficiency map at 5 speed and 5 torque points
• Peak power
• And temperature rise

What you will learn

Motor testing methods, torque measurement and efficiency mapping.

Tools and notes

Load cell with lever arm or a torque sensor, encoder, electrical load or prony brake, data logger, power meter. Use a coupling guard and a quick-stop switch.
