Synchronous Generator Excitation Control (AVR) Test Set-up

Electrical Machines / ControlMedium-Hard

Approx. component budget: Rs. 6,000 - 11,000

Objective

Design an AVR and measure how well the generator holds voltage during load steps.

What you will build

A small alternator driven by a motor, with an automatic voltage regulator controlling the field current to hold terminal voltage under load changes.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Alternator characteristics, excitation systems and closed-loop voltage control.

Tools and notes

Small alternator or car alternator, DC motor drive, MOSFET field driver, Arduino/ESP32, sensors. Guard rotating parts and use fused, enclosed wiring.
