Thermoelectric Generator (TEG) Waste Heat Harvester

Energy HarvestingEasy-Medium

Approx. component budget: Rs. 5,000 - 9,000

Diagram of Thermoelectric Generator (TEG) Waste Heat Harvester
Diagram (illustration, not to scale)

Objective

Measure the power generated by TEG modules at different temperature differences and see how well it can charge a battery.

What you will build

TEG modules clamped between a hot plate (heater, stove or exhaust pipe) and a heat sink, with a boost converter to charge a small battery, and temperature and power measurement.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

The Seebeck effect, waste heat recovery, DC-DC conversion and energy harvesting.

Tools and notes

Arduino, INA219, boost converter, thermocouples, Excel. Do not exceed the rated temperature of the modules, and handle hot parts with care.
