Control / ElectromagneticsMedium-Hard

Approx. component budget: Rs. 6,000 - 11,000

Diagram (illustration, not to scale)

Objective

Levitate an object using feedback control and find how gains and coil design affect stability and response to disturbance.

What you will build

An electromagnet coil above a steel or magnetic ball, a Hall or optical position sensor, a coil driver (MOSFET) and a microcontroller running a PID loop with a sturdy frame.

Results you can expect

What you will learn

Magnetic force, unstable systems, sensing and control, the same ideas used in maglev and magnetic bearings.

Tools and notes

Arduino/STM32, Hall sensor, MOSFET driver, power supply, Excel. Keep the supply low (12-24 V) and use a heat sink on the driver.

Resume points from this project

Replace [x] with your own measured results. Write only what you really did.
