Code Plagiarism Detector for Programming Assignments

Help teachers find copied code fairly, and reduce false accusations by showing evidence.

What you will build

A tool that compares programming assignments and shows similarity even after variable renaming or reordering, with a side-by-side highlighted report.

Results you can expect

• Detection of 30 deliberately disguised copies
• False positive rate on independent solutions
• Comparison of token-based and AST-based methods
• And runtime for 100 submissions

What you will learn

Tokenisation, abstract syntax trees, similarity algorithms such as Winnowing, and ethical use of detection tools.

Tools and notes

Python, tree-sitter or the ast module, difflib, Flask. Treat the score as a hint for a human review, not as proof.
